A free game review for your chess games

• Every move graded — brilliant, best, good, book, inaccuracy, mistake, blunder and the rest, with the engine's move shown beside yours.
• An accuracy figure for both players, and a graph of where the game turned.
• Your own blunders as puzzles. The positions you got wrong, asked again later, with the answer hidden.
• Patterns across many games. Review twenty at once and it will tell you what keeps happening — the openings, the phases, and the moves you play too fast.
• A board to try your own ideas on, with the engine judging your line against the one you played.

chess.com's Game Review is good, and this page is not an argument that it is not. The differences worth knowing before you choose are these:

The honest summary: a server-side review searches deeper and is already where your games are. This one is free without qualification, works on games from anywhere, and cannot see what you played — and for finding the moves that actually decided a game, depth stopped mattering some years ago.

• Open the board and type your chess.com username — the same one you play under.
• Pick a game from the list, or press Review to run through the last five, ten or twenty together.
• Wait about a minute a game. The board is usable while it works, and the grades appear as they land.
• Read the report, then practise the positions you got wrong.

The games come from chess.com's public data API — the same public games anyone can read — requested by your browser, one at a time. Nothing is scraped and nothing is stored anywhere but your own machine. lichess games work the same way.

Because it costs nothing to serve. The expensive part of analysis is the engine, and here the engine runs on your computer — so a hundred games cost this site exactly what zero games cost it. There is no tier above this one, nothing withheld, and nothing to upgrade to. You can put something in the tin if it has been useful, and it unlocks nothing.

Is there a free alternative to chess.com's Game Review?

Yes. ChessMate Central grades every move of a chess.com or lichess game with Stockfish, gives an accuracy figure for both players, marks the blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies, and shows what you should have played instead. There is no account, no membership and no daily limit, because the engine runs on your own computer rather than on a server somebody has to pay for.

How many games can I review for free?

As many as you like. The analysis happens in your browser using your own processor, so the hundredth game costs exactly as much to provide as the first — which is nothing. The only limit is your own patience: a full game takes roughly half a minute to a minute to analyse.

Do I need an account, and are my games uploaded?

No account, and nothing is uploaded. Your games are read from chess.com's or lichess's public API straight into your browser, analysed there, and stored there. No game, move or evaluation is ever sent to a server belonging to this site — there is no such server.

Is the analysis as good as chess.com's Game Review?

It is the same engine family — Stockfish — but a shallower search, because it runs on a laptop rather than in a data centre. For finding the moves that decided your game, the difference is very small: a blunder is obvious at any depth. For arguing about which of two good moves is fractionally better, a deeper search is worth more.

Does it work with lichess games too?

Yes. Type a lichess username and pick a game, or a chess.com username, or paste any PGN from any source. All three go through the same analysis.
