Chess rating checker

Type a username, see what level that rating really is.

Site

What it does

  • Works for chess.com and Lichess, from the public profile.
  • Shows each time control on one scale, with how far the next level is.
  • The name goes only to the site it belongs to. We count the level, never the name.

Questions

What do the levels mean?

They are this site's own labels for ranges of online rating, such as Beginner under 1100 and Club player from 1400. No official body ranks online players into named classes, so treat a label as a rough description of how people at that rating tend to play.

Why is my rating different on chess.com and Lichess?

Because they are separate rating systems with their own player pools and formulas. The same player usually has different numbers on each, and neither is the same as a federation (FIDE) rating. Compare ratings only within one site.

Does this store my username?

No. Your browser asks chess.com or Lichess for the public profile, and the name goes nowhere else. Afterwards the page sends one anonymous count to this site: the site, the time control and the level band. That is how we can see what levels the people using it are.

Why does it say my rating is a rough guess?

A rating based on only a handful of games has not settled yet, and both sites say so. Play more rated games in that time control and it will move towards your real level.
